Green Room Epoxy System

Designed specifically for surfboard and SUP manufacturing, the Green Room Epoxy System is engineered for strength, clarity, and durability. This 2-part, 100% solids, no-VOC epoxy resin/hardener combo delivers pro-level performance with a convenient 2:1 mix ratio by volume (100:44 parts by weight). It’s formulated for wet hand lay-up laminations and offers low viscosity for rapid wet out, excellent air release, and a smooth, self-leveling finish with high gloss.

What makes it stand out? No blushing, no shrinkage, and no hassle. Even in low temperatures and high humidity, it cures flawlessly—no yellowing, no chalking, just bright, crystal-clear laminations. With a lower peak exotherm temperature than most fast-setting epoxies, it’s also ideal for fin box installations because it prevents foam core melting. Plus, with three resin and five hardener options, you can fine-tune your mix for the perfect balance of flexibility, strength, and workability.

rESIN oPTIONS

Not all resins are created equal. Our high-performance epoxy resins are designed to give shapers full control over clarity, workability, and durability, so you can dial in the perfect formula for every board.

BioCarbonEpoxy2025-02-14T21:49:23+00:00

The newest member of our resin line-up. BCE resin utilizes renewable, bio-based carbon materials derived from waste streams of biodiesel, vegetable and nut oil processes to replace part of the normal, petroleum-based raw materials. When properly mixed with any GRBC hardener, the final product has 19% bio-based carbon. It has been certified as a USDA bio-based product as well as a qualified material for the Sustainable Surf Ecoboard project. It matches the performance in terms of cosmetics, processing and physical properties of our other resins with an eco-friendly option. It is available with either Old #7 or Blanco optical brighteners.

Blanco DH2025-02-14T21:51:34+00:00

Our revolutionary new formula for super, bright white laminations was introduced in 2013. It combines the outstanding UV stability of Old #7 with our proprietary optical brightener that gives unmatched bright, white laminations. Using Blanco DH over black, dark blue, similar dark colors or carbon cloth may result in an undesirable change in the appearance of these dark colors. Evaluation on test specimens is recommended before use over dark colors or wood.

Old Number 72025-02-14T21:52:01+00:00

Our original, breakthrough formula entered the market in 2006. It features state-of-the-art UV stabilization additives and a light blue optical brightener. It accepts tints and pigments very well and is the first choice for laminations over dark colors or with carbon cloth.

Hardener Options

Timing is everything. With multiple hardener options to choose from, you can adjust cure speed and workability to match your process.

Slow Hardener2025-02-18T22:47:56+00:00

Useful for large lamination projects and for adjusting the set time of either of the faster hardeners. It features a pot life of 45-50 minutes and a thin film set time of 8-12 hours.

Fast NC & Medium NC2025-02-14T21:54:25+00:00

Our newest hardener options. Both are DOT non-corrosive and ship without any hazmat concerns. Although the NC hardeners give slightly high mixed viscosities, their non-corrosive nature gives an extra margin of safety and minimizes the potential skin irritation of other hardeners. Fast NC features a pot life of 15-20 minutes and thin film set of 1.5-2.0 hours while Medium NC has a pot life of 25-30 minutes and a thin film set of 2.5-3.0 hours.

Original Fast2025-02-14T21:53:57+00:00

Our most popular hardener for all around use. It features a pot life of 20-25 minutes and a thin film set time of 2.5-3.0 hours.

Ultra Fast – aka West Coast2025-02-14T21:53:09+00:00

Our fastest hardener option. It features a pot life of 10-15 minutes and a thin film set time of 1.5-2.0 hours.

Tips for Mixing Epoxy

For the best results, always measure epoxy by weight, not volume. It’s more precise, more efficient, and actually saves you time and money compared to using graduated mixing cups. All Green Room Epoxy Resins mix at 100 parts resin to 44 parts hardener by weight, so grab a digital scale that measures in grams to one decimal place, and you’re good to go.

Want a foolproof method? Dr. Rob’s got you covered. We like to keep a big-button calculator taped to the wall right next to the scale—because the fewer math mistakes, the better.

Mixing Instructions

  1. Make sure your scale capacity can handle the total weight of the mix plus the bucket.
  2. Place your container on the scale and hit tare—the reading will go to 0.0.
  3. Pour in your hardener first. (Let’s use the example of pouring 101.2 gm) Pouring the hardener first helps it mix better into the corners of the bucket.
  4. Calculate the amount of resin needed: Take the grams of hardener and divide by 0.44. For example: 101.2 ÷ 0.44 = 230.0 gm resin.
  5. Without removing the container, re-tare the scale. The reading will again go to 0.0.
  6. Pour in the correct amount of resin. The resin weight must be within ±2% of the target weight to ensure proper curing.
  7. Add dye or pigment if desired—no more than 5% by weight of the total mix.
  8. Remove from the scale. Then, mix gently but thoroughly for 2 to 4 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom with a mixing stick. Avoid whipping in excess bubbles.
    Ready for use!
